The fight against corruption has been Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party's electoral plank and it's turned into a rallying point for hundreds of bankers, doctors and NRIS, taking a break from their careers to help out. Chairperson of Royal Bank of Scotland Meera Sanyal is going from house to house mobilising people to vote for the debutant Aam Aadmi Party.
She went solo in 2009 general elections and has taken a sabbatical to dedicate herself to this party ALSO SEE Arvind Kejriwal's AAP has drawn people's attention, admits Sheila Dikshit Meera said, "I got help as an independent. I believe in them and Anna Hazare, so I have decided to help them." Hundreds of working professionals like her have taken a break from their careers to help the party which promises to be different.
A neo-natologist from Chicago Munish Raizada is on a four-month sabbatical and is now helping with volunteer registration. He said, "Anna's movement motivated me. Politics required for change so I risked everything." A former IT professional Sandeep Bisht braved resistance from his family and left his comfortable job in London to help the party. He said, "My family said don't take it up but I didn't want to be a mute spectator."
Nearly 80 per cent of the 7,000-odd dedicated volunteers of the AAP are working professionals who have taken a break to help the party. Will their efforts help the party to win Assembly polls, only results will tell.
