36 வருடங்களை நான் திரும்பிப் பார்க்கிறேன். கண்ணாடியில் என் முகத்தை பார்க்கும் போது காலம் என் முகத்தில் வரைந்த கோடுகள் தெரியும். ஆனால் காலம் மாறினாலும் ரஜினி, கமலின் கலை உணர்ச்சிகள் இன்றும் மாறவில்லை. இவர்கள் இந்த நாட்டின் பொக்கிஷங்கள்.
நான் எப்போதும் முதலாளி என்றழைக்கும் எஸ்.ஏ.ராஜ்கண்ணு இன்றும் நல்ல நிலையில் இருப்பது சந்தோஷமாக இருக்கிறது. இசைஞானி வந்திருந்தால் நன்றாக இருந்திருக்கும். கொஞ்சம் மாச்சர்யங்கள் இருக்கு. ஸ்ரீதேவி வந்திருக்கலாம். புகழின் உச்சியில் இருக்கும் ரஜினி, கமலை சூப்பர் ஸ்டார், உலகநாயகன் என சொல்லத்தோன்றும்.
ஆனால் எனக்கு கமல், ரஜினி என்று சொல்ல உரிமை இருப்பதால் இதுவரை சொன்னதில்லை. அதுதான் இயல்பாகவும் இருக்கிறது. அவர்கள் ஏதும் சொல்ல மாட்டார்கள் என்ற நம்பிக்கையும் இருக்கிறது. கமல் பிறக்கும்போது அழுதபோதே கலையுடன் தான் அழுதிருப்பாய். இந்த உலகநாயகனோடு எந்த வசதியுமில்லாத இடங்களில் படப்பிடிப்பை நடத்தினேன்.
நானும் ரஜினியும் வராண்டாவில் படுத்து உறங்குவோம். இன்றைய நடிகர்கள் யாரும் அப்படிப்பட்ட வசதியுடன் நடிக்கமாட்டார்கள். பரட்டைக்கு ஆள் தேடியபோது மோட்டார் பைக்கில் படபூஜைக்கு வந்த ரஜினியைப் பார்த்தேன். அதன்பிறகு தேடிப்பிடித்து ரஜினியிடம் கதை சொல்லி, இது அவார்டுக்கான படம் என்று பொய் சொன்னேன். கமலிடம் கோமணம் கட்டி நடிக்கவேண்டும் என கேட்க கூச்சமாக இருந்தது.
அதைக் கண்ட கமல் என்னவென்று விசாரித்து விறுவிறுவென துணியை அவிழ்த்து கோமனத்துடன் நின்றார். என்னை ஒரு விதையாக தயாரிப்பாளர் நட்டார். எனக்கு உரமாக இருந்தவர்கள் ரஜினி, கமல், ஸ்ரீதேவி. இன்று ரசிகர்களால் விருட்சமாக நிற்கிறேன். இசைஞானி இல்லாவிட்டால் பாதிப் பெருமை குறையும் இதற்கு ரத்தமும் நாளமுமாக இருந்த இசைஞானி இங்கு இல்லை.
அவன் இல்லையென்றால் இந்த படத்தின் பெருமை பாதி குறையும். பாமரத்தனமாக என்னுடன் பயணப்பட்டு, இன்று உலகம் வியந்து பார்க்கும் இசைஞானியாக நிற்கிறான். ரஜினி, கமல் போல இசைஞானியும் இந்த நாட்டின் சொத்து. மேடையில் இல்லையென்றாலும் பாராட்டவேண்டியவன் இசைஞானி. இவ்வளவு வளர்ச்சிக்குப் பிறகும் என் முதலாளியை கௌரவிக்க வந்ததற்கு ரஜினி, கமலுக்கு நன்றி.
இந்த நேரத்தில் 'இது எப்படி இருக்கு' என்ற வசனத்தை எழுதிய நண்பன் கலைமணியை நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிறேன். ‘ஆத்தா ஆடு வளத்தா... கோழி வளத்தா... நாய் வளக்கல... இந்த சப்பாணியத்தான வளத்தா..." என்றெல்லாம் அற்புதமான வசனங்களை எழுதிய கலைமணி இப்போது இல்லை... என் நண்பர்கள் செல்வராஜ், கலைமணி, எனது ரைட்டர்ஸ் பாக்யராஜ், ரத்னகுமார் இவர்களையெல்லாம் இந்த நேரத்தில் நன்றியுடன் நினைத்துப் பார்க்கிறேன். இவர்கள் இல்லையென்றால் நான் இல்லை," என்று கண்ணீருடன் பேச்சை முடித்தார்.

Cancer has an answer, say Manisha Koirala, Yuvraj Singh
In a joint effort to raise awareness about cancer, Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala and Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh Tuesday evening pepped up millions of people affected with the ailment, asserting "If we can, you can".
Rejecting the notion "cancer has no answer", both Koirala and Yuvraj Singh valiantly fought and overcame the life-threatening cancer.
The Bollywood actress and the aggressive left-handed batsman spoke about the traumatic moment when they came to know of their affliction, followed by agonising and tough treatment process, but finally - the victory over cancer.
Having gone through it all, both have decided to spread awareness about the disease.
"No matter at what stage the disease is detected, you have to pick up the pieces yourself and fight back. I tell people 'If Yuve can, you can',", said Yuvraj Singh during a lively interaction programme, "Pratigya, Cancer Myths and Reality", organised at a five-star hotel here.
Manisha, who dislikes the term "cancer survivor" as it sounds "meek", called herself a "cancer crusader".
"A crusader has the attitude which gives you strength, because that is what you need when you are fighting a disease, which may be cancer or some other thing."
"There is a stigma that cancer means death. No, it is not so. I know lot of people who got cancer, got treatment and are fine. Let us crusade against any kind of challenges," said the actress.
Cancer patients, doctors, leading Bengali film stars, singers, fashion designers, sportsmen, socialites - in short, the creme de la creme of the city attended the programme that aimed to raise awareness about cancer.
The audience listened to the duo in rapt attention, breaking out in spontaneous applause now and then.
Yuvraj acknowledged they had now become role models for cancer patients. "We both are symbols of hope and courage."
On his comeback into the Indian team, he said: "It is the passion to come back. If you have the passion, you can come back. This is the reason I am back. Hopefully, I can play a few more years for the country".
The strength to fight against the disease comes from within, your family, friends and well-wishers, said the cricketer.
Yuvraj exuded confidence that Manisha would also make a comeback, but cautioned her against hurrying.
"The media should not hound her about her comeback schedule," he added.
The star-cricketer said, early detection was the key to fight back the disease.
Manisha Koirala, who gave a motivational speech, helped by audio-visual props like slides, her pictures as a child, a young girl, an actress and as a cancer patient, said: "The disease has taught me what all that is important in my life. I want to tell people how fragile life is. We should value our life, our health."
She stressed on leading a healthy life and eating organic food.
Leading Bengali film actress Rituparna Sengupta, whose organisation "Bhavna Aaj or Kaal" tied up with corporate affairs expert Subroto Mukherjee's "Illusions" for the show, said: "We all have our professional lives, but beyond that we have some duty. We need to do our bit for the society."
Woody Allen finds Indian anti-tobacco ad distracting, cancels film screening
llen's movie that stars Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin, was supposed to hit Indian theatres this weekend. But the screening has been cancelled now.
The movie has two smoking scenes and, according to Indian law, a disclaimer about the evils of tobacco use has to be flashed while showing smoking scenes in films or on TV.
"Allen has the creative control as per the agreement. He wasn't comfortable with the disclaimer that we are required to run when some smoking scene is shown in films. He feels that when the scroll comes, attention goes to it rather than the scene," Deepak Sharma, COO of PVR Pictures.
PVR Pictures had planned to lock 25 to 30 screens for the film.
"We had to abide by the law and we don't have control over the film, so it's alright," he said.

Australian captain Michael Clarke has said that is not sure when he will be fit to play cricket again, and although he is positive he would be fit for the return Ashes, there is no guarantee at this stage.
According to the Mirror, Clarke was speaking after it was revealed he would miss Australia's tour of India due to a long-standing back problem.
The Baggy Greens' physio Alex Kountouris had earlier said Clarke would need an 'extensive' rehabilitation period before returning to competitive cricket, the report said.
Clarke said that he was always positive and just needs to make sure he does everything to give himself the best chance.
Australia will be looking for revenge after losing this summer's Ashes series in England 3-0, the report added.
The first Ashes Test starts in Brisbane on November 21, according to the report.

Videocon Mobiles launches eight 3G smartphones, price starts at Rs 6,000
Handset maker Videocon Mobiles today launched eight 3G (third generation) devices in the range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,000 under its new 'Infinium' series.
"The new series is a second level category for our smartphone range and we are targetting people who want to upgrade to be better device at a competitive price," Videocon Mobile Phones CEO Jerold Pereira said.
He said the company will launch at least six new smartphones by March 2014 and aims to increase the market share in the segment to 5 per cent by then.
"Right now we have around 2-3 per cent share in the smartphone market and by 2014 we are aiming to increase it to 5 per cent," Pereira added.
The company said the new series brings power-packed 3G smartphone experience to the emerging consumer in the country.
It said the new series addresses a variety of customer needs which include processing power, screen size and resolution, photo-capturing options and more in competitive prices.

Twitter filed for its IPO on Thursday and reportedly included some of the coolest tweets ever in its documents. The tweets included were heavy on ads and light on spams, and Twitter might be the only company to include Osama bin Laden in its IPO filing as the latter's terrorist group al Qaeda recently launched its official account on the site, before being suspended.

Very soon, one can wander around the lawns of the Qutub Minar sitting continents away. A virtual tour of the monument is part of a new initiative to put India's heritage structures online. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), in association with the Ministry of Culture and Google, is creating a 360-degree online imagery of 100 of India's most significant monuments — including Taj Mahal, Khajuraho, and Ajanta and Ellora Caves.
Launched on Thursday at the Qutub Minar lawns in Delhi, Rajan Anandan, Vice-President and Managing Director, Google India, said, "This is on the lines of Google's Art project, wherein Indian museums tours were made available online. Now, these important Indian heritage sites will be available for the world to experience."
The Street View Trekker — a 15-kilo wearable backpack camera with multiple lenses on top — was brought to the launch to capture images of the monument from all angles. Once the data has been collected, it will be made accessible online. Using this camera, Google has already brought several tourists attractions and UNESCO heritage sites from across the world closer home — including Grand Canyon (US), Palace of Versailles (France), Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) and Mount Fuji (Japan). The image bank will be available on Google Maps as well as the World Wonder website:www.google.com/ intl/en/culturalinstitute/worldwonders

Adobe hacked, 2.9 million accounts compromised
Adobe Systems, which makes softwares like Photoshop and Acrobat, today said credit card information of 2.9 million customers have been stolen from its website in a cyber attack.
In a blogpost, Adobe said its security team discovered sophisticated attacks on its network, involving the illegal access to customer information as well as source code for numerous Adobe products.
"Our investigation currently indicates that the attackers accessed Adobe customer IDs and encrypted passwords on our systems. We also believe the attackers removed from our systems certain information relating to 2.9 million Adobe customers.
"This includes customer names, encrypted credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates and other information relating to customer orders," it added.
Adobe said while it believes the attackers did not remove decrypted credit or debit card numbers from its systems, it is working internally and with external partners and law enforcement to address the incident.
The company said it is notifying customers and resetting passwords. It has also alerted banks processing Adobe payments to help protect customer accounts and is working with federal law enforcement on its related investigation.
"Cyber attacks are one of the unfortunate realities of doing business today. Given the profile and widespread use of many of our products, Adobe has attracted increasing attention from cyber attackers," Adobe chief security officer Brad Arkin wrote in the blog post.

Bench to hear Swamy’s plea against Etihad-Jet deal
The Supreme Court on Friday posted for hearing on October 8 a writ petition filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, challenging the Etihad Airways-Jet Airways deal approved by the Union Cabinet on Thursday.
A Bench of Chief Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice Ranjan Gogoi directed the petition to be listed for hearing on a mention made by Dr. Swamy about the urgency.
In his petition, Dr. Swamy alleged there had been a grant of largesse of national asset in favour of a foreign airline (Etihad Airways) resulting in undue enrichment and enormous pecuniary advantage to such foreign airline at the cost and expense of the public, national and domestic airlines as well as airports.
He said “In order to facilitate the execution of this colossal fraud on the Indian exchequer, the foreign airline has agreed to guarantee personal loans as well as pay a premium towards its foreign investment in a domestic airlines — Jet Airways. Such grant of largesse is in the form of an unprecedented increase of capacity entitlements through execution of Bilateral/MoU in favour of Abu Dhabi under existing Air Service Agreement between the government of India and the United Arab Emirates.”
“The fact is that the negotiations, meetings and discussions of the bilateral/MoU, through which the Government of India granted a largesse of increase of capacity entitlement up to 50,000 seats per week from existing 13,330 seats per week in favour of Etihad Airways, was undertaken in Abu Dhabi. As per the negotiations, Etihad Airways was to invest and purchase 24% of the shareholding of Jet Airways (India) Ltd., at an enormous premium by way of preferential allotment,” the petitioner said.
Dr. Swamy said that it was a record that in less than 48 hours after the meeting of the group of Ministers, which acceded to the “unrealistic demands” of Etihad, the bilateral/MoU was signed in Abu Dhabi on April 24. Simultaneously, the announcement by Etihad was made “on the same date, at the same time and at the same place”.
He sought a direction for ordering a probe under the supervision of the court into the execution of the bilateral; enrichment of foreign party at the cost of the Indian exchequer; the antecedents of the facilitator; and diversion of benefits to the facilitator.
